Welcome to the world Maverick Elijah Sooter! Born 9/1/10 at 7:27 am, 8 lbs 2 oz, 21 inches. Your Mommy & Daddy love you!

Happy summer, friends! I am presently sitting in my hotel room outside of Boise, ID as I write, trying to collect my thoughts for the God and Country Festival tonight as well as for this blog. Due to the fact that most of my brain cells seem to be going directly to the baby these days, collecting my thoughts isn't quite as easy as it once was. ;) Nevertheless, I can't help but reflect on how the Lord has brought me into this new season of life and how He's changing me along the way. Jacob and I recently moved into our first house, so the month of June has largely consisted of unpacking, painting, decorating, and more unpacking. In addition, we are only 2 months away from welcoming our little boy into the world, and every day the weight of that reality sinks in a little more. Needless to say, we are growing up.

For as long as I can remember, my dad and I have been tight. I'm a self-professed daddy's girl to the core and wouldn't have it any other way. Growing up, my dad was very affectionate and expressive, sometimes much to my embarrassment. He used to sing, "There She Is, Miss America" (not quite in tune, might I add) every morning when I'd sleepily walk down to breakfast with my lovely pillow hair. He would kiss all over my face despite my protests or who might have been around. In the church Christmas production one year I played Twinkle, the star that pointed the shepherds and wise men to the Christ-child, and to this day my dad still calls me 'Twink.'

Ever since I can remember I've been a "kid person." When my parents started fostering children, I took it upon myself to be Mom #2...at the ripe old age of 8. I majored in Family and Child Development at Liberty in hopes of working with orphans all over the world. I've always dreamed of having a "quiver full," a multi-cultural family of sorts, blended of biological and adopted children. For Jacob and me, the journey of starting a family has begun.

To say that the weeks leading up to and following release day (March 2) were eventful would be a vast understatement. Looking back on my calendar, I have only the fondest memories of the last month or so, but for fear of those days becoming a blur, I will recount the highlights.
